Il Taglio NV
Piedmont in northern Italy is best known for majestic reds like Barolo and Barbaresco and quality sparkling wines. But years ago, it was the 'still' white wines that stole the show. Il Taglio - Italian for 'The Cut', really is a cut above. Made from the same Muscat grape as the region's sparkling wines and bottled young to preserve its exceptional freshness, it's an amazing taste sensation: Aromas of fresh grapes, honey and citrus fruits. Crisp, zesty and very slightly off-dry. A wine that demands a second glass.
This style of wine is not widely produced so little is ever exported beyond the Italian Riviera - just an hour away where it is avidly enjoyed by the glitterati. You don't have to own a yacht or an open-topped sports car, however, to appreciate its many charms. We can recommend taking inspiration from Omar Khayyam, chilling your bottle and finding a shady bough …
